Common questions

A few things people ask about Cog-Fun. If your question is not here, send it through the contact page.

What is Cog-Fun?

It is an occupational therapy intervention for adults with ADHD. The name is short for Cognitive-Functional. It teaches metacognitive strategies and applies them directly to the daily activities and life roles a person cares about, so the gains show up in real life.

Who is it for?

Adults with ADHD whose symptoms get in the way of daily functioning. That might mean trouble with time, organization, and follow-through, keeping up at work or in study, managing a home, or the toll all of that takes on wellbeing.

Is it a replacement for medication?

No. Current clinical guidelines recommend pairing medication with non-drug approaches. Cog-Fun is meant to work alongside other treatments, not instead of them. Decisions about medication stay between a person and their prescriber.

What happens in treatment?

The client and therapist set goals together. From there they build strategies, practice them in the context of real tasks, and adjust the person's environment to make those tasks easier to start and finish. Progress is reviewed against the goals the client chose.

How long does it take?

It depends on the person and their goals. Cog-Fun is a structured, time-limited intervention rather than open-ended therapy. A therapist can give you a clearer estimate once your goals are set.

Is it available by telehealth?

Cog-Fun has been delivered both in person and remotely. Whether a given therapist offers telehealth depends on the therapist and where you live.

For therapists

I am an occupational therapist. How do I train in Cog-Fun?

Training runs periodically for occupational therapists. See the courses page for the current status and to be added to the list for the next round.

Can I refer a client, or connect with a trained provider?

You can reach out through the contact page. A therapist directory is in the works to help connect adults with trained providers.
